Harkham Hillel Hebrew Academy

Hillel’s mission is to teach, empower, and inspire Jewish students
with Zionist Orthodox values in an innovative, nurturing, and child-centered environment.

Hillel was founded in 1948, starting with a handful of students in the basement of Beth Jacob Congregation. Hillel currently serves approximately 600 students from Early Childhood through 8th grade.

The establishment of Hillel became possible through the vision of its founder, Rabbi Dr. Simon A. Dolgin, zt”l. Under the direction of the Dean Emeritus, Rabbi Menachem A. Gottesman, a school was built that became a beacon of light in our community. In 2003, Rabbi Y. Boruch Sufrin assumed the mantle of leadership as Head of School. As we face the educational needs and challenges of the 21st century, Hillel has been blessed to have strong leaders who are constantly working to pursue its vision of academic excellence for all its students.

Re-Imagined

The re-imagination of Harkham Hillel Hebrew Academy will allow students to feel empowered to be masters of their own learning while embracing Zionist Orthodox values of healthy schools and healthy students, environments that serve all learning styles, social as well as casual learning spaces, community and business linkages, and technology access.

The new HHHA campus will go beyond Next Generation Learning in an environment that will teach, empower, and inspire Jewish students; a special place of wonder, unity, wander, and connection rooted in the place of Israel.

Keeping Our Neighbors in Mind

Harkham Hillel Hebrew Academy has been an active member of the Beverly Hills community for many decades.  Hillel is excited to share news of a project that will not just improve our own students’ quality of education, but will also improve quality of life for the local community.

The re-imagined Hillel project includes the refurbishment of existing school buildings on-site and the addition of a classroom building and gymnasium.  The proposed buildings match the existing scale of the current school buildings and are conscientiously designed to project light and noise away from our residential neighbors.  In addition to the buildings, the proposal will extend the current drop lane to accommodate more vehicles and will improve landscaping around the site to create a warmer feel.
